What is Zombie?
Zombie is not a traditional LARP system, probably because the total experience of the creators in that field amounts to half a morning running around in chainmail and an evening sat on a plastic chair pretending to be a badass death Mage. We tried to create a LARP that was fun to us - one that didn't require masses of acting in character, sitting around talking, slow rulesy combat or awkward-to-wear Elf ears. We wanted to have a laugh; we weren't interested in character development or politics. We wanted to run screaming through the dark shooting people with our NERF guns.
Zombie is the result of those immature desires. What started as a game played after too many drinks, running in and out of Halls of Residence kitchens, has evolved into a rather large LARP event run once or twice a year. We have increased the number of NERF guns from four to twenty, and added shotguns, rifles and submachineguns to the armoury. We have thirty undying Zombies take on five or six survivors.
And the wonderful thing is that Zombie is very hard to get wrong. We've prettied it up with bells and whistles - there's masses of flavour items, bonus scenarios and sub-plots for you to discover - but the fact remains that running around a big building with a load of foam-firing guns and shooting at people is a bloody good laugh. Once you establish that as your base idea, there's only so much you can do to mess it up. We've kept the rules set as simple as possible and have no direct player-to-GM communication in game to ensure that "alone in the dark" feeling.
So Zombie - running around in the middle of the night firing a Winchester-action NERF gun into the hordes of blood-spattered faux undead that are trying to eat your still-living flesh, covering your tech who is bleeding out on the floor and being tended to by your medic so he can get back on his feet and rework the wiring that'll open the door and get you out of the building.
Do come along, won't you?
